The chill of Autumn may be creeping up on us, but the sun is still out and about (thankfully!) so, how should we be dressing when the weather can’t make up its mind? Trans-seasonal layering is the best approach! It can be a challenge to find the perfect balance in layering to keep warm, but also done in a way that allows you to ‘layer down’ when the sun makes a welcome appearance. By utilising our top tips you’ll be able to enjoy this in-between season in elegance!

Here are our 4 top tips to solving the trans-seasonal fashion
dilemmas:

Tip 1: Have all the basics covered

The foundation of layering is always to begin with quality basics.
Ensure your wardrobe is prepped with basic singlets, tanks
or tees so that you can layer your knitwear and jackets
over them. With bright colours and bold prints on trend this
season, it’s good to have some basic tops on hand to break
up the colours and prints in your outfit for a more classic,
balanced look.

Your favourite denim bottoms and bengaline pants are a year
round wardrobe staple. They’ll come in handy at this time of year
as ¾ bottoms are ideal for changeable weather and can be
teamed with almost any knit or jacket.

Tip 2: Take your outfit from ordinary to extraordinary with key layering pieces

Trans-seasonal fashion is all about layering it up and being able to layer it down!

How to Wear: Cardis

Long-line, lightweight cardigans are wonderful pieces as they add that extra layer of warmth while maintaining a flattering shape. When outfitting with a cardigan, always ensure you layer with a top that can still take centre stage in your look. Cardis look brilliant when teamed with full length soft pants as this creates a great contrast of seasonal wear.

How to Wear: Wraps

Wraps are a trans-seasonal wardrobe essential as they add a feminine, bohemian vibe to any outfit and are the perfect way to make the most out of your Summer/Spring wardrobe. For cooler evenings, you can still wear your favourite Summer dresses, but you can complete your look with a wrap to give your outfit a trans-seasonal look and feel. Easily infiltrated into your Summer wardrobe, it will also work wonders with your Autumn/Winter range as you can throw them on with almost any outfit and take it from ordinary to extraordinary!

Tip 3: Be wild and wonderful in different colours,
prints and
textures

Nights may be getting progressively darker, but your outfits certainly don't have to! Freshen up your trans-seasonal look with bright colours and prints that will add that much needed pop of colour. Particularly when layering, try and use light and bright pieces rather than dark ones to ensure your layers each make their own statement. If you favour darker colours, try to liven it up with a bright scarf or belt to add a touch of seasonal colour.

Keep your look stylish and on-trend by layering different textures. By layering a lace top and a detailed crochet cardigan, you’re complimenting your outfit with two opposing textures that will add interesting style. Knits are a great way to do so, and layering a textured scarf on top will keep things versatile. Layering textures is all about combining the differing seasonal fabrics and ensuring your outfit always has a trans-seasonal feel to it.

Tip 4: Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise!

Nothing keeps your look vibrant and fabulous like great accessories! Whether it’s a printed scarf, statement necklace or mule heeled shoe, accessories are key to making your outfit a standout.

Scarves

Scarves are a great accessory all year round, but are particularly fabulous and functional during this time of the year. With a variety of snoods, printed scarfs, and even scarves with a touch of sparkle, they instantly add detailing that create effortless style. They are always great to use when layering, and when it gets a little too warm during the day for the scarf, you can tie it around your handbag to maintain the style in your outfit.

Statement jewellery

Let your outfit sparkle and shine with stunning statement pieces! Look chic and dazzling with jewellery that you can wear all year round. When it’s a little too warm for a scarf, a statement necklace is the perfect replacement! It can add colour or sparkle to your look and multi-strand necklaces in particular look fabulous with layered looks as they add that extra detail. When you’re all rugged up in your wrap and cosy knits, opt for a bracelet or bangle instead.

Mule shoe

The heeled mule is the ultimate trans-seasonal shoe! With an enclosed body and open toe front and heel, it embodies the in-between season. In classic black, it’s a superb pick to break up a brightly coloured outfit and is super easy to mix and match with.
