With Australia Day just around the corner, we couldn’t help but let this week’s blog be inspired by everything Aussie!
On our schedule for the day we will be saluting to Australia and singing the national anthem at midday, then early afternoon we will be holding an Aussie inspired back yard party with friends and family and finally late afternoon we will be heading down to Parliament House where an amazing outdoor concert will be put on, the lovely Jessica Mauboy will be singing and the best bit is it’s completely free!
For our back yard party instead of the classic BBQ we thought we would experiment and we were inspired by strange recipes that only Aussies would dare to try!

Vegemite Spaghetti
Vegemite spaghetti might sound strange at first, but once you piece the ingredients together you’ll quickly learn it’s a recipe for success.
Ingredients:
- 375g thin spaghetti
- 50g butter
- 1 tbsp Vegemite
- Grated parmesan cheese
Method:
- Fill a large stockpot with water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a rolling boil, add pasta and cook until pasta is turned al dente. Drain and rinse under water.
- In the same pot, combine butter and Vegemite. Stir and reduce on a low heat. Add pasta to pot and comb sauce through. Add a dash of water to stretch sauce if necessary.
- Garnish with cheese.
Tim Tam and Raspberry Milkshake
If your taste buds tingled after reading the title, we’re sure they’ll erupt with joy when you take just one sip!
Ingredients:
- 200g Tim Tams roughly chopped
- 8 scoops of vanilla
- 400ml milk
- 2 crushed Tim Tam to serve
- Raspberries to serve
Method:
- Place ice-cream, Tim Tams and milk in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Pour milkshake into 2 tall glasses. Garnish with raspberries and crushed Tim Tam.
Chock Chip Damper
Back in the day, damper was a bushman’s best friend. It was traditionally made with flour, water, and sometimes milk. Since then, chocoholics have transformed their simple recipe into something even a traditional bushman couldn’t resist.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of self-raising flour
- A pint of salt
- 80g butter cut into cubes
- ¾ cup of water
- ½ cup of choc chips
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Line baking tray with non-stick baking paper.
- Mix the flour, salt, and butter in a bowl. Rub the butter into the flour mix until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add chock chips to suit your sweet tooth.
- Add the water and mix until ingredients come together. Add extra water if the mixture is a little dry. Bunch mix and place on flour dusted surface.
- Knead gently for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Shape into disk and place on baking tray.
- Cook for 30 minutes.
We hope you all have a wonderful Australia Day and we’d love to hear all about it!
