A bowl of cherries have always been an Aussie fav to have around the home. But we think this tasty morsel can be more than a piece of fruit, especially when it comes to Christmas entertaining.  From a cherry pie recipe, cherry guessing game, to cherry ice cubes, you can make sure that no cherry will go to waste.

Sweet Cherry Pie

There’s a song about it for a reason! Cherry pies are a sweet solution for those who want a quick and easy treat for afternoon tea or dessert.

Ingredients:

• 4 cups cherries, pitted
• 1 cup sugar 
• 1/4 cup flour
• 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon pastry for a double-crust 9-inch pie

Method:

1. Mix ingredients for filling.
2. Place in pastry-lined pie pan.
3. Put top crust on. Cut vent slits in top crust, and flute edges.
4. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
5. Bake at 220°C for 25 minutes, reduce heat to 175°C and bake for 25-30 minutes more.

Cherry guessing game

The silly season comes with a lot of silly games. This Christmas, entertain the kids with a cherry guessing game! It’s very cherry simple. Place your cherries in a bowl, let the kids view for 10 seconds before hiding them. Let the kids guess how many there are.


Cherry Flavoured Ice Cubes

Impress your family and friends with an oh-so-stylish ice cube in their drink. These cherrylicious cubes go perfectly with most fizzy drinks. The next time you fill up your ice cube tray, why not have a go!

You need:

• Ice cube tray
• Cherries

Method:

1. Place cherries with stem up in tray.
2. Fill with water.
3. Freeze overnight.

Edible Christmas decorations

What’s not to love about an edible Christmas decoration? These edible decorations are easy to make and even easier to eat!

You need:

• 250g bag of peppermints
• Bakers twine
• Cookie sheet

Method:

1. Cut twine in 10cm increments, fold in half and place on tray
2. Unwrap peppermints and lay on tray in a flower shape, or to your desired shape
3. Bake for 15 minutes at 250 degrees
4. Cool for 15 minutes 

Homemade popsicles

When the Christmas heat strikes, you’ll be sure to impress your family and friends with this deliciously cool and refreshing treat!

Ingredients:

• 2/3 cup sugar 
• 1 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
• 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

Method:

1. Put sugar and 1/3 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to boil over high heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
2. Combine sugar water, strawberries and lemon juice in a blender and purée until smooth, (about 30 seconds). 
3. Transfer purée to popsicle molds and freeze 4 hours. Insert popsicle sticks and freeze an additional 4 to 6 hours, or until frozen solid.

Pool Noodle Candy Canes

Stuck for a way to entertain the kids through the Christmas break? We’ve got you covered. Not only are they loads of fun to make, you’ll might get a visit from Santa for your excellent efforts.

You need:

• Fishing wire
• White pool noodle
• Waterproof red ribbon
• Pins

Method:

1. Bend the top third of the pool noodle and secure it in place with a loop of fishing line.
2. Secure ribbon from base of noodle using the pins. 
3. Wind the ribbon around the noodle. Secure with pins.
4. Use fishing line to hang to around the home.

This week Millers did a live TV segment on the fun morning show Studio 10. We have been regulars on this show for the last few months and it has been such an exciting experience for us! This was our last appearance for the year so we thought we would share with you the stages of action on how this show comes together… and of course all the backstage gossip!

Stage 1: Hair and make up 
Every girl knows the first thing about TV is you’ve got to look your best! Our three lovely models and Millers girl Evelyn relaxed and got into the celebrity mode with their hair & make being done at the Channel 10 beauty room.

It’s no secret, homemade gifts come straight from the heart! A homemade gift is a great option for loved ones who are impossible to buy for. Not only are they truly sentimental, putting them together can be extremely fun and an event in itself. Which is great news for those with little ones to entertain! This Christmas, why not spoil the people you love with a gift made by you.

Christmas Necklace

You need:
• 3 small scarves at similar lengths
• 1 brooch* (optional)
• Masking tape

Method:
Step 1: Take the ends of the scarves and knot them together. Using masking tape, tape the knotted end to a table.
Step 2: Begin to braid. Ensure that one end is longer than the other so that it is easy to tie around the neck. Attach brooch to middle section.

15 Minute Apple Crisp
Impress your friends and family with a quick Apple Crisp dessert!

Ingredients
4 medium apples, sliced
¾ cup brown sugar
½ cup plain flour
½ cup oats
⅓ cup butter or margarine, softened
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¾ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Cream, Ice cream, or yoghurt if desired

Method
1. Heat oven to 190 degrees Celsius. Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with butter or margarine.
2. Boil apples until tender and soft.
3. Drain and spread apples in pan.
4. In bowl, stir remaining ingredients except cream. Mix well then pour directly in pan.
5. Bake for 15 minutes or until topping is golden brown.

Last week our Gorokan store put on a fashion parade and some of our gorgeous customers were models for the evening.

They had such a blast and with up to 50 people in the audience the night was a great success.


Our Echuca store has a weekly visit from the lovely Caroline who always brings sweet treats… so the store team decided to surprise her this time round.
They baked her as a cake for her birthday and gave her flowers. This made Caroline’s day and the teams! What a great way to celebrate our loyal customers.



One of our sweet customers who has been a regular to our Bayfair store for years, recently had a tragedy where her house had burnt down.
She lost all her belongings and Di the store manager really wanted to do something special for her as she brings so much joy when she visits.
We gave her a Millers Gift Voucher so she could buy herself some new clothing.
